“A decent society wouldn’t push millions of students into debt. It would recognize that higher education isn’t mainly a personal investment. It is a public good.” – Robert Reich
For any educator, it is painful to hear a student say, “I want to be in your class or program but I can’t afford it”. Too many times this has been the case for students wanting to join our program, even though our tuition didn’t cover what it cost to deliver the program.
Ecosa has long been a thought leader in design education focused on applying design, systems thinking and creativity to the challenges at hand. Students from all backgrounds who also seek these types of solutions should not be turned away because they lack the money to attend. These students are our future and it is our job to equip them, whether they can afford it or not.
We know that student debt is a huge burden and that many young people can’t afford to pay for a college education. To expect young people to build up debt before they even start careers and have income in effect, impoverishes the future for everyone. So it has become increasingly clear that something needs to be done, but what?
Following much debate and a search for solutions, Ecosa decided to embark on a daring experiment, take a leap of faith, and invite others to join us for the ride!
We are now offering our semester in Ecological Design TUITION FREE for committed, qualified and needy students, starting with the Fall term August 28, 2017-December 8, 2017 and also in Spring, January 9-May 4, 2018.
“The goal is to find students who, regardless of income, are most likely to create positive change in the world,” stated Ecosa Founder Tony Brown.
This leap of faith is also a test to discover if enough people agree with and support our belief in equal access to education. Our hope is that people, companies and organizations will be willing to support higher education with a pay-it-forward concept. Whether you contribute in recognition of your own education and those who helped you, or because you believe in the importance of our program or want others to experience what Ecosa has to offer, or because corporations and organizations have a vested interest in the education of their future employees – your contribution to higher education will generate countless and continual positive actions.
“Our world cannot go on with a ‘business as usual’ approach. Radical changes are needed in so many vital areas, and those changes start with education,” said Brown. “At Ecosa, we see design as a change agent that can address many of the problems of the 21st century. We train ecological designers with a holistic and nature-driven approach so that they can bring positive solutions to the world.”
