Container House Design
Getting Started With Container House Designs
Container House design has gained momentum recently as part of the Tiny House movement. A few years ago, Ecosa Institute Program Director and Architect Antony Brown, along with students in our Ecological Design Certificate Program, consulted with homeowner Marie Jones of Flagstaff, AZ to design a house made from shipping containers. As you will see from the pictures, the house was a great success.
Since then we’ve received dozens of calls from people wanting to design something similar, and looking for help. It quickly became obvious to us how many people wanted to know about shipping container design. So, we decided to do something about it!
We’ve carefully crafted an introductory e-book, Getting Started With Container House Designs, to share our experience and expertise with you. This free e-book is filled with lots of basic yet helpful information, like important container house facts to consider, budget items to include, and container house resources. Plus, there are many pictures of Marie’s beautiful container house that we designed, along with an account from Marie herself of her journey to build this house.
Learn More About Ecological Design
Container houses are only one of many ideas we teach students about in our programs. If you would like to learn more about ecological design, whole systems thinking and designing with nature, we invite you to consider enrolling in our semester-long Ecological Design Certificate Program.
Here’s what one of our alumni recently wrote us about our program:
“I’m building a light clay house this year and am seeking petal certification under the Living Building Challenge. I just thought I’d let Ecosa Institute know that I would not be able to do this without the education I received at Ecosa Institute a decade ago.”
